Bulgaria and Estonia finished 2-2 in a peculiar friendly football game played on Wednesday, all goals being scored from penalties.
Midfielder Ivelin Popov scored both penalties for the Bulgarian team 40 and 83 minutes, as did Estonian captain Konstantin Vassiljev at the 20 and 80 minute marks. Both squads showed a disappointing performance throughout the game, which was played at the Turkish resort of Antalia and will only be remembered with its plenty penalty shots.
The Bulgarian national team's coach and renowned former German international Lothar Matthaeus had especially demanded that a European team be chosen for this friendly match, as he wishes to prepare his squad for its next official clashes.
Bulgaria's next official game will be against Switzerland on March 26 2011 as a part of the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
The Balkan squad stands hardly any chances of qualifying for the tournament. In the qualifiers' Group G, Bulgaria is currently fourth among five teams, with one win from three games. The other teams in the group are Montenegro, England and Wales.
