Israeli Delegation In Cairo: It Will Negotiate For The Hostages Of Hamas
A high-ranking Israeli delegation has arrived in Cairo to negotiate the release of hostages held by Hamas
At least four people are reported to have been killed overnight in a fresh outbreak of shooting on Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo as Egyptians continue to protest against President Hosni Mubarak.
According to the Al Arabiya television, four protesters camping out in Tahrir Square were shot dead and some 15 were wounded in as they were assaulted by gun fire by supporters of Hosni Mubarak.
The shooting occurred Thursday at about 4 am local time; the incident happened after on Wednesday there were clashes in Cairo between protesters against the Mubarak regime and alleged supporters of the Egyptian President, who has been in power since 1981.
In the clashes Wednesday night, three people were reported dead and around 1,500 injured after protesters were attacked by what they said were paid thugs hired by Mubarak's regime.
On Tuesday, bowing to popular pressure and prodding by the US, Mubarak announced he would not seek reelection when his term expires in September 2011; the massive protest movement, however, has continued to demand his immediate stepping down.
Following the overnight violence in Egypt on Thursday an anti-government protester in the Tahrir Square told Al Jazeera that protesters were being shot at and women and children were caught in the middle of the violence.
Witnesses also said there were many people wounded by fire coming from the October Bridge where partisans of embattled president Hosni Mubarak are positioned.
