Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci's party has conclusively won the country's first general elections since it declared independence in 2008, the election authorities have informed.

Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has secured 32.40 % of the vote , while the main opposition Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has come in second 24.67%.

Sunday saw the re-run of the December election in the ethnically-divided city of Mitrovica after irregularities meant the constitutional court annulled the initial vote.

The Serbs boycotted the elections, like the ones on December 12, 2010, and only ten of them voted in mobile polling stations in areas populated with Serbs.

The voter turnout was 26.76 percent, which is by 11 percent lower compared to December 12 elections, when manipulation and fraud were revealed.
