Will Bulgaria Have a Stable Government After Yet Another Election in June? Our Readers Have Spoken
On our Facebook page, readers were asked about Bulgaria's stability after the June elections
Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, who announced last year his retirement as captain of the national team, has assured he will work for Bulgaria's football at a later stage.
"If you are a football player, who has achieved many things, one day you will have to do your best to help those, who have helped you start out. I will definitely do this, but not now. There is time for everything," the 30-year-old said in a rare interview for local bTV private channel.
The interview was aired just a day after the Bulgarian forward staged a stunning performance, scoring his third hattrick for the season and leading his team to a 5:0 victory against Birmingham.
"I wold be happy to help anyone, who wants me to. The most important thing for people is to want to develop. If nobody wants me to help them, I will live my life and have nothing to do with anyone," he added.
Asked whether he is following Bulgarian football matches, Berbatov said there is not much to watch.
"Bulgaria's football teams are facing a bleak future. We are all watching and see what is going on."
He reiterated that the decision about leaving Bulgaria's national football team was not a decision he took lightly, but it is final.
"If I was not sure that this was the right decision, I would have returned. I don't care what other people say. It is only what I think that matters. I have no boss to order me around."
Dimitar Berbatov announced at the beginning of May last year his retirement from international football with immediate effect. He was captain of his country and scored a national record 48 goals in just 74 matches.
Berbatov remains the Premier League top scorer for the season with 17 goals out of 19 games, 16 of which in the championship.
