Bulgaria: New Missile Attack on Kandahar Base, Bulgarians Safe and Sound

Taliban insurgents launched a rocket attack against the ISAF/NATO air base in Kandahar on Wednesday.

The rocket attacks occurred shortly before 7 pm local time, the Bulgarian Defense Ministry announced.

None of the some three hundred Bulgarian rangers stationed at the Kandahar Air Base or the other ISAF troops have been wounded.

The worst incident with Bulgarian soldiers in Afghanistan to date occurred a year ago, in January 2010, when four Bulgarians were wounded in a Taliban rocket attack, with one of them subsequently losing his hand.

In 2010, Bulgaria increased its Afghanistan contingent as part of the ISAF/NATO forces to 600 troops; some half of those are stationed at the Kandahar airport.
