Unusually high temperatures have set new records in Bulgaria Friday, just before the arrival of Christmas Eve, the country's Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) informs.
The records were registered in the central city of Veliko Tarnovo where at 3 pm the mercury reached 16.4 degrees Celsius (previous record was set in 1913 with 16 degrees), and in the northwestern city of Vratsa – 17.4 degrees (last record of 17 degrees was set in 1995).
On Christmas Day clouds will leave and the weather all over Bulgaria will be sunny. Some occasional rains could fall in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country, according to the forecast.
Southern winds are expected to set new records in eastern and northern Bulgaria where temperatures will again reach 16-17 degrees. In the other parts, including the capital Sofia, they will be between 10 and 15 degrees.
In the beginning of December, record-high temperatures were registered once again in Bulgaria, while the extremely cold weather was raging in the rest of Europe, taking dozens of victims in Poland and several other countries.
