Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has signed Sunday the resignation of the Minister without Portfolio for Bulgarians Abroad, Bozhidar Dimitrov.
The news was reported by Dimitrov himself in an interview for Nova Televizia Sunday evening, saying he came to the TV station directly from his meeting with Borisov.
Minutes later the PM confirmed, in a different interview for the TV channel bTV, he had accepted the resignation, adding he deeply regretted to have had to do it, but it was needed to show he is not applying double standards.
The two are known to be very close friends, and the now former Minister pointed out he owed his decision as a favor to Borisov, and was neither angry nor offended.
The former Minister also said his resignation, most likely, would be voted by the MPs in mid-January when they reconvene after the holidays.
It remains unclear if Borisov would keep the post of Minister for Bulgarians Abroad. Dimitrov tossed the idea the sectors, until now, under his management would be merged with the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad to form a "working, full-blooded Ministry."
