The member of the New York City Council, Daniel Holloran, had met US Ambassador to Sofia, James Warlick, in person and had asked him to resign from the post.
The news was reported by the Bulgarian conservative party Order, Law and Justice (RZS).
The meeting had not been planned and the two ran into each other in a restaurant in Sofia on December 11, RZS inform, quoting Holloran saying they talked for 15 minutes and the Republican told Warlick he was "a disgrace for American diplomacy."
According to the Republican, an official US representative has no right to interfere with another country's internal affairs and cannot use the media to make accusations of local public figures.
Holloran informs he had asked the Ambassador to quit on his own, otherwise he would approach the US State Department and its Secretary, Hillary Clinton, in person to insist on Warlick's recall.
"I ended the conversation by telling him I have reserved a one-way ticket which he will have to use sooner or later," the Republican had pointed out.
Holloran had further voiced criticism towards the policies of Bulgaria's ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party for acting in secret and covering up everything from the public while freedom of press in Bulgaria had turned into an illusion since the country's media never criticizes those in power.
Holloran also accused GERB with having ties with the organized crime, saying they have been "well known."
"It is a pithy Bulgarian citizens see the US Ambassador demonstrating support only for the corrupt ruling party," the Republican had concluded.
