Japanese police have arrested a man who injured at least 13 people after a knife attack outside a train station, the BBC informed.

The man boarded two buses and attacked the passengers, who were reportedly mostly school children. The incident happened in the city of Toride, some 40 km north-east of Tokyo.

According to initial police reports, four people have been stabbed and nine more have been injured as they fled.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by the Japanese police on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokesman of the local fire department has stated that one of the victims would have to remain in hospital for several weeks, but the others were not seriously injured.

Seven people were killed by a man armed with a knife in 2008 in a similar incident in central Tokyo.
