Bulgarian filmmakers and musicians are staging Thursday another protest rally against budget cuts in the culture sector.
The demonstrators are gathering at 11 am in front of the building of the National "Ivan Vazov" Theater in downtown Sofia. The filmmakers say they will not allow the genocide of Bulgarian cinema while musicians are against possible amendments to the copyrights law.
The musicians say these amendments would be to their disadvantage; are and will create conditions for obscure artistic organizations to impose their own lobbyist interests.
Filmmakers also took on the streets last week, after it became clear that the cabinet of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is considering changes where financing of Bulgarian movies will be offered only if there "are enough resources" while the number of films receiving subsidies will be scaled down to 7.
"Those of us who see Bulgarian culture as needed as the metro and the spying on citizens, WILL BE in front of the National Theater and we will be noisy this time!" the facebook page of the protest reads.
