Kalina Ilieva, the former Head of Bulgaria's Agriculture Fund has not only forged her Master's degree diploma, but has also made up her marks.
The Master's Degree projects, cited by Ilieva have never been handed out in the Berlin Technical Institute, from where Ilieva claimed to have graduated. She has been expelled from the Institute after September 30 2007, as she never took her exams.
Her job was as CEO of Bulgaria's Agriculture Fund was to implement strict oversight over EU-funded projects.
Bulgarian "168 Chasa" weekly first broke the scandalous news, citing officials from the Berlin Technical Institute, who stated that Ilieva does not have a Master's degree in Economic Relations and Communications.
The allegations were proven by an official letter from the Institute. Meanwhile, a real Berlin Technical Institute diploma was compared with Ilieva's document in various Bulgarian media, proving that her imitation has been done pretty carelessly, as the differences are numerous and apparent.
Germany's Prosecutor's Office has taken up the case. If found guilty of forgery, Ilieva might get up to 10 years in jail under German law.
On Wednesday, Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov expressed his discontent about Ilieva's actions.
"I am mad at her and I am offended. She told me she had tumor, and all of a sudden it turned out she was in fact pregnant. A woman having a baby is great news, why did she have to lie to me?," he said."I do feel cheated as everyone else involved in this scandal; of course I have to share the responsibility for it, but she seemed to possess all required qualities to have a great career,"
He explained to the the media that he knows Ilieva's father, Ivan Iliev, former head of Sofia's fire department, is an excellent professional.
Iliev resigned from the position on Wednesday.
