The health condition of the Bulgarian actor Andrey Batashov is getting worse, after the doctors discovered he also suffered from Q fever, the Bulgarian daily "24 Chassa" (24 Hours) reported.
Batashov was hospitalized at the beginning of November. According to reports, the actor suffered a sepsis, caused by the abscesses on his lungs, which led to a general intoxication and deterioration of his liver and kidney functions.
He had to undergo a liver transplantation. However, according to the publication, his chances have decreased severely, due to the discovered Q fever.
Doctors think that the actor got infected months ago, but the disease appeared now when the body's defenses are weakened.
The Q fever is a disease caused by infection with Coxiella burnetii, a bacterium that affects humans and animals. It results from contacts with infected animals.
Treatment of the Q fever with antibiotics is very effective and the mortality rate is only about 10%. However, due to Batashov's serious condition, treatment would be much more complicated.
The doctors committee is discussing the actor's condition several times a day. He is treated with the most modern techniques and medicines.
His condition has been stabilized and the sepsis was put under control for several days. He had a chance for an improvement, but he needed an urgent liver transplantation. However, no donor has been found yet.
Besides actor, Batashov was also teaching in the Bulgarian National Academy for Theater and Film Arts. He is most popular for his one-person show "Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll," which he staged more than 500 times.
The actor was also an MP from the centrist National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NDSV) in the previous government.
