Bulgarian channel for sex slavery has been nabbed in Germany, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry has announced.
The operation has been conducted together with the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany.
A 26-year-old man from the Bulgarian town of Dobrich was the organizer of the crime ring. He was arrested together with 11 alleged accomplices.
Nine of them, aged from 18 to 44, were detained in Germany. Other three were arrested in the Dobrich region with an European arrest warrant and were transported to Germany.
According to the police, the 26-year-old man has been recruiting, transporting, soliciting for prostitution and controlling the "white slaves."
So far, 25 victims of the crime ring have been smuggled and "delivered" in the German regions near the cities of Bonn and Cologne.
The Prosecutor's Office in Bonn has started pre-trial proceedings for human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
On October 18, Bulgaria will participate in the European Day against Human Trafficking. The Interior Ministry, the Bulgarian National Anti-trafficking commission and NGOs will be partners of the initiative.
