Turkish customs officers have detected a Bulgarian trying to smuggle 7 kg of gold.

The man, who was driving on his own, was arrested at the Kapikule border crossing, close to Bulgaria's Kapitan Andreevo crossing; he was driving to Istanbul.

The gold was in eight bullions each weighing almost a kilogram. It was hidden under the front car seats.

In addition, when searching the man, the customs agents found 170 grams of gold decorations.

The gold is worth about EUR 200 000, and the Bulgarian has been arrested for contraband.
