A 3.9-point magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake was registered in southwestern Bulgaria early Saturday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reports.

The epicenter was 13 km south of the town of Gotse Delchev, 109 km southwest of Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv and 7 km southwest of the village of Hadzidimovo, with a depth of 589 km underneath the surface. The shock was registered at 0:34 am.

Most people were asleep at the time and did not feel the quake. There are no reports of injuries and material damage.

The earthquake comes on the heels of an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale that rattled northeastern Bulgaria Thursday evening.

The epicenter of this earthquake was near the town of Provadia, 34 km west of Varna, 320 km east of Sofia, at a depth of 7.8 km, according to the Bulgarian National Seismological Data Center.

The quake hit at 10:51 pm Eastern European Time, and was felt tangibly in the Black Sea city Varna, the towns of Provadiya and Devniya, sending scores of people on the street for the rest of the night. Damages, such as cracked walls and broken store windows, were reported in Provadiya and the nearby villages of Manastir and Dobrina.
