Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
There is a steady trend of public disappointment with the right-wing Bulgarian government of the GERB party, according to Socialist opposition leader Sergey Stanishev.
Speaking at a rally with Bulgarian Socialist Party members in Plovdiv, former Prime Minister Stanishev cited data from a Gallup poll showing that GERB hat the trust of 30% of the voters, while the BSP enjoyed support of 15%, meaning that it has started to narrow the leader of the ruling party.
In his words, in September 2009, GERB was five times more popular than the Socialist Party, while this has been reduced substantially in the past year.
Stanishev declared that the local elections in 2011 will be the first major challenge and chance for the Socialists to regain their positions.
He further accused the Borisov government of hiding information from the people about problems with the construction of the much anticipated waste recycling plant in the capital Sofia.
Stanishev believes the European Commission most likely will not provide the funds it promised for the project because of certain problems with it but the Cabinet would not make this information public.
At the same time, he accused the government of failing to fulfill its promises for financial compensations to several municipalities around the country, including Plovdiv, for taking in garbage from the capital Sofia.
