Five Russian soldiers have been killed and more than 30 have been wounded in a car bomb attack in the Russian autonomous Republic of Dagestan.
The suicide bomber crashed an explosives-loaded car at a base used by a special motorcycle rifle brigade at Dalny, near the city of Buynaksk. The guards of the base managed to open fire against the car preventing it from penetrating the base and potentially causing many more casualties.
According to various reports, the explosion had the power of 30 kg of TNT; it created a crater with a diameter of 3 meters. The attack tool place at 12:30 am local time.
The Russian authorities have ordered alert and reinforcements to all military sites in Russian Caucasus region, which includes several republics terrorized by separatist fighters including Chechnya and Dagestan.
This is not the first attack against the Buynaksk air base. On July 23, 2 Russian soldiers were killed when unknown persons opened fire against the base.
Exactly 11 years ago, on September 4, 1999, a terrorist attack killed 68 people and wounded 150 in Buynaksk.
Just a day earlier, on September 3, 2010, a minister from the Dagestan government was wounded in an attack, and two of his guards were killed.
