Bulgaria captain Stiliyan Petrov has warned his side to be cautious of an England team still hurting from the World Cup.

The Three Lions host Bulgaria at Wembley on Friday in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier as they look to rebuild following a dismal campaign in South Africa this summer.

And Aston Villa midfielder Petrov, who regained the Bulgaria captaincy after Dimitar Berbatov quit international football three months ago, is expecting dangerous opposition in London as England attempt to win back the faith of their supporters.

"We know England are the favourites in this group," Petrov told the Daily Express.

"Also we know how strong England are. They had a disappointing World Cup, but now they are going to show the fans that is all behind them, they will try to win the game because of that feeling."

Disagreement

Aston Villa skipper Petrov also stepped down from the international stage three years ago, relinquishing his captaincy following a disagreement with former coach Hristo Stoichkov.

But having returned to the fold last year, Petrov is a key player in Bulgaria's midfield set-up.

The skipper is calling for a solid team performance on Friday to upset Fabio Capello's side.

"We will need to be very organised," he added. "We don't have the same talent England have.

"But we will try to perform well, work as a unit, and see what we can get from the game.

"This is a period of change for England. That could go both ways. We hope it will be good for us."
