A Bulgarian citizen has been arrested in Turkey during an attempt to export 10kg of heroine to Greece, the Bulgarian private TV channel bTV has reported, citing the Turkish Anatolian Agency.

The Bulgarian was traveling with his own car. From the port in the coastal Turkish town of Cesme, he planned to transfer to the Greek island Chios.

The customs officers searched the car with a specially trained dog. They found the drugs distributed in packs in hiding places in the car.

The Bulgarian was detained by the Turkish police. During his questioning, he claimed he did not know anything about the drugs.

However, he has stated that he knew many people from the Bulgarian underground world, who made him illegally transfer consignments of antiques from Turkey to Bulgaria.

After the interrogation, the Bulgarian has been tried in court where the magistrates ruled his detention. He will be tried for drug trafficking.
