At the end of their strike, protesting Greek lorry drivers have attacked Bulgarian drivers of gasoline tankers, the Greek APE-MPE has announced.

On Sunday, the Greeks have attacked the Bulgarian lorries while they were passing the point for collecting tolls in Eleusinia, near the oil refinery in the town and at about 20 km distance from Athens.

The reason for the attack, according to the Greek media, is that the Greeks have thought that the foreign gasoline tankers were sabotaging the one-week strike.

The Greek forces for combating civil unrest have arrived shortly and have gotten the things under control.

The Greek news agency has also stated that there have been more serious problems due to the depletion of gas at the gas stations in the Halkidiki and Volos districts, where the strike has hit the worst.

APE-MPE has also noted that August 1 is the day when Greeks usually start their annual leave.

The Greece's Truck Owners' Confederation has announced Saturday that drivers will resume working on Sunday.

“The decision was voted with a minimal majority,” said George Tzortzatos, head of the confederation.

Tzortzatos has earlier stated that he will plead to his colleagues for termination of the strike and return to the negotiations.

The same end of the strike has been hinted by the Greece's Transport Minister, Dimitrios Reppas, in an interview for the local TV channel “Mega”.

“Dialogue, however, will be possible only if the drivers do not organize another protest before the voting of the bill in the end of September. The negotiations will include only question in connection to taxes and insurances. We will not discuss the main disagreement, which is the liberalization of the sector,” Reppas said.
