Bulgaria: UN Proclaims Universal Human Right to Clean Water

Safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a fundamental human right, proclaimed the UN General Assembly, settling a debate that has continued for 15 years at the UN.

The resolution, tabled by Bolivia, received 122 votes in favor, with none against and 41abstaning, out of UN's 192 member-states.

The UN resolution declares that safe water and sanitation are “essential to the full enjoyment of life and all other human rights.”

It also voices strong concern that about 900 M people across the globe lack access to clean water, and a staggering 2.6 B do not have proper sanitation.

It is estimated that this is leading to 2 M deaths yearly, mainly of small children.

The UN calls upon all states to steep up efforts to change that dire situation, setting a target of halving the number of people with inadequate access to water by 2015.

OK, the UN should now provide this clean drinking water to everyone on the planet. Typical UN nonsense. All they do is "proclaim". They never do anything useful. It is easy to sit on your arse in New York and make ridiculous proclamations, anyone can do it. But try and make it happen, if you are so smart. Dumb, useless vermin!

Nellie:

Take a look at UNESCO. If they declare many more places as "cultural areas" to be preserved, we'll have to move to the moon.

Leipzig, I think it was, had one hell of a fight to get a badly-needed bridge over the river, because one end of it would be in a protected area. I didn't follow that story too closely, so I can't be sure this was a UNESCO deal, possibly some other environmentalist outfit, but as I remember it, it wound up with the city telling the environmentalists to go pound sand, because they needed the bridge.

The same thing is happening now with the Rhine. At present there are no bridges over the Rhine between Mainz and Koblenz. A new one is proposed (and fought).

UNESCO is another idiotic and useless organization. All the morons who work there are in it for the job security and nothing else. If you work at UNESCO you can't be fired. These vermin are parasites on our taxes. Shut down the UN and call it a day. No one will miss it, as they don't DO anything. It is much easier to make speeches than to walk the walk.

Do you support France’s Roma crackdown?
Yes, I approve of France’s campaign to expel Roma migrants, they live illegally.

No, France abused Roma rights, breaching EU law on free movement.

I have no opinion.
