Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, had requested a probe of the prosecutor, who, in another case, offered a plea bargain to one of the members of the crime group codenamed “Killers.”

The man in question is Metodi Ivanov. He is charged as an accomplice in the recent murder for hire of the controversial president of the Rilski Sportist football club and municipal councilor in the town of Samokov, Yuriy Galev.

During the raid of Ivanov’s house the police found a “Kalashnikov” machine gun, illegal explosives, a rifle, 4 500 bullets and some fake currency bills. He has also been charged with ownership of illegal weapons.

At a Saturday press conference, dedicated to the “Killers” special police operation, Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, informed Ivanov had been sentenced a while ago to probation over the same offense. It emerged later the probation plea bargain had been offered by the prosecutor in the case.

“I am convinced the police did their work then and collected sound evidence. Now I want the Chief Prosecutor to call his colleague who offered the plea bargain and question the latter about the reasons, and then fire him it needed,” Borisov said Tuesday in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.

In the same interview, the PM confirmed he is asking for harsh punishment of the police officers who thrashed a family in the southern city of Kardzhali by mistake, seriously hurting a 20-year-old girl.

Tsvetanov is to appear before the Parliament Wednesday to give explanations on the case.
