Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The BSP leader and former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, pointed out people and media compare more and more his successor, Boyko Borisov, to the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez.
Stanishev spoke Saturday during the meeting of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) to discuss the Socialists’ position on the 1-year rule of Borisov’s center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party.
The BSP leader pointed out foreign investors have been chased away from Bulgaria, saying that “when one sends to the National Agency for State Security (DANS) some of the biggest investors in Bulgaria this alarms all others.”
Stanishev said the GERB rule can be defined only as “farewell to illusions.”
The former PM further stated freedoms and democracy in Bulgaria are under serious threat where the cabinet’s anti-European policies turn the country into a true police State.
“The Parliament became a “rubber stamp” for decisions made somewhere else, without a democratic debate. The cabinet’s anti-crisis efforts failed, the absorption of EU funds stalls, and funds are saved by depriving people – retirees, whose pensions did not go up, and college students now asked to pay education fees. All reforms are based only on the lack of money. These are no reforms,” Stanishev concluded.
