Ukrainian Woman Detained in Sunny Beach After Attempted Bribery of Police Officers
Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
Bulgaria's police have arrested about 20 men early Friday morning in what has been dubbed special operation “Killers” by Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
The special operation is still going on in several cities and towns around Bulgaria – Sofia, Varna, Samokov, Cherven Bryag, and Kiten.
“This is an extremely dangerous organized crime group including a person who orders killings, an organizer, a perpetrator, and their assistants. All of those have been busted. We are still raiding a number of addresses. One of the persons did not open the door to his house but our guys broke in, and found an AK 47 hidden inside,” explained the Interior Minister who promised more details on Saturday.
“The only thing I can say for the time being is that this is the first time in the history of contemporary Bulgaria that criminals of such scope have been arrested,” Tsvetanov told the BNR Friday morning.
The special operation Killers is being carried out by the Interior Ministry, the State National Security Agency, and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. The Minister has not revealed any information about assassinations of which the arrested men might be suspected.
