The criminal court in Brussels has convicted three Bulgarian men of pimping and human trafficking of 8 young Bulgarian women and has sentenced them to 40 months imprisonment and a EUR 27, 500 fine.
The Belgian daily “La Derniere Heure” has reported that Ivan Savov, Borislav Yordanov nad Tashko Boro, aged 36-43 years, have invested the money, derived from the victims' activities, in businesses in Bulgaria, including a pizzeria and purchase of buildings.
Envelopes with money have been handed every fourth night to a bus driver, who regularly traveled the Sofia-Brussels route. However, one witness admitted he has made five round trips on behalf of Todorov, bringing amount of EUR 12 000 to 18, 000 each time.
The court's ruling was relatively moderate due to the fact that most of the victims have admitted they knew they were going to Belgium to prostitute. One of them even bought a grocery store for her parents.
However, the rest of the victims have claimed that they have received death threats.
