The Bulgarian Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) has announced the disciplinary dismissal of their colleague over acquaintance, damaging the prestige of the judiciary.

The VSS and Military District Judge from Sofia, Stoyko Stoev, has been dismissed because he had close contacts with the “businessman” Krasimir Georgiev, aka “Krasio the Black”.

The magistrates have approved the decision with 15 votes for, 1 vote against, and 4 abstained.

Krasimir Georgiev, from northern city of Pleven, allegedly offered magistrates to secure their high-ranking positions in exchange for cash. Several judges and magistrates, including Supreme ones, have been dismissed or resigned in the aftermath of the scandal over proven contacts with Georgiev.

Stoyko Stoev was the first to resign when the scandal broke full force last fall.

The Supreme Judicial Council has ordered a 10% cut of the salary of another judge, Dimitar Kirilov, over proven contacts with Georgiev.
