Bulgaria’s Supreme Administrative Court has confirmed a fine on car importer “Balkan Star Motors” for what has been deemed unfair practices.

The fine of BGN 244 000 was imposed on Balkan Star Motors, the importer of Mitsubishi for Bulgaria, by the Competition Protection Commission for an offer widely advertised online.

The offer in question provided a free Mitsubishi Colt car with every purchase of a Mitsubishi Pajero jeep.

According to the competition watchdog, Bulgarian competition law prohibits the offering or presenting of additional items to a good on sale unless these items are promotional materials of little value.

The Commission has imposed the fine as soon as it found that Balkan Star Motors focused on emphasizing the fact that the second car is “free” and thus managed to make a number of sales to end consumers.
