An American woman has called the police after a currency exchange teller in downtown Sofia allegedly tried to defraud her.

The US citizen went to exchange dollars into Bulgarian levs in a currency exchange bureau on the central Vitosha Blvd. Once she saw her receipt, she refused to sign it, and demanded her money back.

The teller is said to have reacted aggressively by returning to the American woman only half of her money, and tearing the rest of the banknotes in half.

After that she shut the counter and locked herself inside. The police have arrived on the spot and are investigating if the currency exchange bureau is the defrauding people with the exchange rate.
