Bulgarian soldiers on duty have taken down a local man who attempted to cross into their zone of responsibility in Afghanistan’s capital Kabil.
The incident happened at around 11 pm local time on Sunday (9:30 Eastern European Time). The Bulgarian troops on the Shipka watch tower have spotted trespasser and ordered him to stop.
After he failed to obey, they fired warning shots in the air, and when he kept walking they shot him down. The man is wounded in his right foot.
The Bulgarian soldiers immediately helped the man to be transported to a local hospital. The Bulgarian Defense Ministry does not provide any information about his motives to try to penetrate the protected area in Kabul which is the responsibility of the Bulgarian contingent.
Bulgaria has about 500 troops in Afghanistan stationed as guards of the airports in Kabul and Kandahar.
