The Head of Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency has received death threats, the daily “Standard' reports Wednesday.
It is believed the threats against NRA Director, Krasimir Stefanov, are coming from organized crime groups that were subject to the latest special police operations, carried out jointly with NRA and the Prosecutor's Office and resulted in halting tax crimes valued at BGN 100 M in the last few months.
It was recently reported that Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, have also received threats on their lives.
Krasimir Stefanov had been placed under police protection.
A stark proof that threats against high-ranking employees of NRA are real, is the Tuesday arson of the house of the Deputy NRA Director, Toshko Todorov. It is believed the fire, which destroyed the house in the northeastern city of Dobrich, had been a way to intimidate Todorov. There are no reported injuries.
