Bulgaria's Health Minister Anna-Maria Borisova said Thursday that the number of Bulgarian hospitals should be brought down to 130.
In an interview for the national bTV channel, Minister Borisova explained that the number of active hospitals in Bulgaria will be decreased from 400 to 130, yet the Ministry will not close down any of the existing medical establishments in the country.
Bulgaria's health minister said that the remaining 270 medical units will be restructured into post-treatment centers or centers for continuous medical care.
Borisova also pointed out that the Ministry will work on a new, clear-cut methodology for determining the salaries of medical staff in Bulgaria. Some of the criteria will be the level of difficulty of the work as well as the qualifications and degree held.
Last week, Minister Borisova outlined some of the priorities of Bulgaria's Health Ministry, including the introduction of a national health card, boosting pre-hospital care and improving Bulgaria’s emergency medical help.
One of the Ministry’s main goals is to update the number and the prices for clinical paths in Bulgaria (access to various medical services).
Another priority is the restructuring of Bulgaria’s the drug and medicinal product distribution regulatory bodies.
Borisova'a nomination as Bulgaria's health minister was approved by Parliament at the end of April, following the resignation of Bozhidar Nanev over accusations that he has concluded unfavorable for the state deals for the drug order of the swine flu pandemic.
