Bulgaria’s prime minister has said he is flattered by the success of his deputy Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who has toppled him from the top spot in approval ratings for the first time in eight years.
“It is very important to gather together the right people and make a good team. It is only in this way that the party, the government can move ahead,” Boyko Borisov said in an interview for private bTV channel.
“I am glad that a member from my GERB party managed to overtake me in approval ratings. This means that I know how to gather a good team, I have found the right people and put them in the right places,” Borisov said.
He pointed out that the popularity of Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who is also an interior minister, pushes further down in approval ratings president Georgi Parvanov.
A recent poll has shown that Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has become more popular than Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Tsvetanov is said to have a public rating of 60%, while Borisov keeps his popularity stable at 56%, the public opinion poll of the MBMD agency shows.
The poll was conducted between April 23 and April 26, and included 1212 respondents.
The poll shows further that the public approval of President Georgi Parvanov is 40%, of Parliament Chair Tsetska Tsacheva – 28%; of Cultura Minister Vezhdi Rashidov, Diaspora Minister Bozhidar Dimitrov, and Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov – 38% each.
As far as the political parties are concerned, Bulgaria’s ruling party GERB enjoys the support of 36% of the Bulgarians, the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party – 11%; the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms – 5.5%; the nationalist Ataka party – 2.8%; the rightist Blue Coalition – 2.7%, and the conservative party RZS – 1.3%. 26% of the respondents have stated they would not vote in general elections.
