The Bulgarian conservative “Order, Law and Justice” (RZS) party will not take part in the no-confidence vote for the cabinet planned by the opposition.
The statement was made Sunday by the RZS leader, Yane Yanev, who took part in a conference with representatives from around the country, organized with the goal of establishing an initiative committee to call a referendum for the convening of a Great National Assembly to prepare a new Constitution.
Yanev says the no-confidence vote for the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is a futile exercise and the only solution now is to end the current Parliament’s term early and call the Great National Assembly.
The campaign will collect signatures from September 6 to December 6. From May 10, RZS also begins a campaign in other EU member states, the US and Canada to attract support for the referendum from Bulgarians living abroad.
RZS plans to have the referendum by March 2011 to avoid the holding of presidential elections without a new Constitution.
