Boyko Borisov Votes with a Paper Ballot: Is there a Functioning Machine, or Have They Run Out?
Boyko Borisov chose to cast his vote with a paper ballot in Bankya today.
Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, will be the nominee of the ruling GERB party to run for president in 2011.
The declaration was made by the leader of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgarian (GERB) party and Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, in a Sunday interview for the Bulgarian daily “24 Chassa” (24 Hours).
On Friday, Borisov said GERB will name one of the two Deputy Prime Ministers as candidate to run for President, but declined to precise if the nominee in question will be the Interior Minister or Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov.
In a TV Interview, Djankov, who left the World Bank to become a member of the GERB cabinet, said his job is to take the country on the road of economic recovery and denied having any aspirations to become president.
Borisov says he was prompted to state Tsvetanov’s name because he was enraged by political analysts and opponents, who say he will run away from his responsibilities, including the presidential elections.
“I never run, I stayed Mayor of Sofia until I finished the job. I will now remain Prime Minister until the end of my term. If I wanted to run, I could have done it last year and would not appoint a cabinet with such uncertain political partners. I could have called early elections and have now a 2/3 majority,” Borisov told “24 Hours.”
The PM further dismissed as rumors publications that around May 13 another reshuffle of the cabinet is coming and Djankov and the Customs Agency Head, Vanyo Tanev, will be dismissed over failure to collect revenues.
“If I yell about the revenues it does not necessarily mean I am going to fire people. I told Djankov to hire a third Deputy Finance Minister to be in charge only of revenue collection,” Borisov said.
