Boyko Borisov Votes with a Paper Ballot: Is there a Functioning Machine, or Have They Run Out?
Boyko Borisov chose to cast his vote with a paper ballot in Bankya today.
Bulgaria’s ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party will name one of the two Deputy Prime Ministers as candidate to run for President.
The news was announced by PM, Boyko Borisov, Friday. The PM spoke in the Parliament, but declined to precise if the nominee in question will be Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov or Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov.
Borisov statement comes just one day after he appealed yet one more time to current President, Socialist, Georgi Parvanov, to submit his resignation before the end of his term and accused the Head of State of waiting for GERB to carry out the difficult economic and social reforms and then announce his own ‘political project.’
The Bulgarian presidential elections are scheduled for the fall of 2011. Parvanov cannot run because he is now serving a second term in office.
Speculations are that the GERB nominee will be the Interior Minister, who is, per Borisov’s own admissions, the PM’s top favorite.
Tsvetanov declared Friday that running for President is not at all one of his priorities at the moment.
On Thursday, the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party accused the Interior Minister of already leading a presidential election campaign by using the high-profile police operations and turning the Interior into campaign headquarters.
