After months of promoting a legion of women into Bulgaria's politics, the prime minister is due to elevate yet another lady.
“The new head of the state health insurance fund will be a woman,” Boyko Borisov told journalists in parliament.
He explained that the government will table the nomination to the parliament following the approval of a new health minister.
Zheni Nacheva, incumbent head of the state health insurance fund, was charged with abuse of power which had caused damage to the fund's budget, and was kicked out of office by the court earlier in the week.
Women in high places in Bulgaria's political life include the justice minister, the mayor of Sofia, the speaker of Parliament, the European Union’s humanitarian aid commissioner and the head of the prime minister’s office.
