Bulgarian MPs Keep Health Insurance Contribution at 8%
Bulgarian lawmakers have agreed to keep health insurance contributions at a level of 8% of the monthly wage.
The investigation against the Bulgarian former Health Minister on charges of concluding two unfavorable for the State deals for an anti-viral flu medicine, has revealed other offenses by high-ranking officials of the National Health Insurance Fund.
This was announced on Monday by the speaker of the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office, Steliana Kozhuharova, reports Doctoronline.bg.
On Monday the Sofia City Prosecutor charged the head of the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK), Zheni Nacheva, with misuse of power.
As director of the Budget and Finance Parameters Directorate, Nacheva was accused of unlawfully increasing the monthly budget of certain medical establishments.
In a statement to the media on Monday, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, declared that he expected Nacheva to resign from the post of head of NZOK and that he is prepared to come up with a bid for the position.
"I've been following the investigation from its very start. I'd like to congratulate the prosecution and the State Agency for National Security on a job well done. I've said numerous times that we'll make no compromises and will hold everyone accountable for their crimes, no matter if they're part of this government or the previous one," said Borisov, as cited by the governmental information office.
The Prosecutor’s Office will now have to decide which institution is entitled to investigating NZOK, informs Doctoronline.bg.
Only the Bulgarian National Audit Office has such rights, yet all audits need to first be approved by the Bulgarian Parliament and planned in advance.
The unfavorable for the state medicine deals, on the other hand, will be swiftly investigated as there are enough qualified experts who can perform the checks.
The Sofia City Prosecutor has also unveiled wrongdoings in the appointment of the managerial staff of the Regional Health Insurance Fund (RZOK).
In March 2010 Bulgaria’s Health Minster Bozhidar Nanev was charged by the Sofia City Prosecutor with concluding two unfavorable for the State deals for the purchase of the anti-viral flu medicine Tamiflu. Nanev denied the charges but resigned from the post.
