Seven companies have filed bids for joining the contest for the construction of a multiplex, which will distribute the digital programs of the national state-owned television BNT and radio BNR, according to reports.
Bulgaria's telecoms regulator, the Communications Regulation Commission, has refused to disclose the names of the companies, citing the reshuffle that the watchdog is submitted to.
The analogue switch-off in Bulgaria should be wrapped up in December 2012.
According to unofficial information among the bidders is NURTS, the broadcasting division of the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company, rebranded as Vivacom, which last week sold a 50% in it to international financial investor Mancelord Limited. Mancelord Limited is represented in Bulgaria by Bromak Ltd., majority shareholder in Bulgaria’s Corporate Commercial Bank Ltd.
Bromak also holds a stake in the media group of mogul Irena Krasteva, who is believed to have been funded by the Corporate Commercial Bank.
Krasteva was also tipped to be among the major bidders for the construction of multiplexes for the digitalization of private TV stations and radios.
The two private platforms will be built by the Slovak Towercom and Latvian Hannu Pro. Among the bidders featured also Austria's Oesterreichische Rundfunksender (ORS), which eyed the broadcasting unit of Vivacom NURTS, Interactive Media Services, Bulsatkom, Adepto and Tesla Bulgaria.
These are believed to be the major runners in the upcoming contest as well.
