Chile's newly sworn-in President Sebastian Pinera has joined thousands of citizens in marking one month since the devastating 8,8 magnitude earthquake struck the country.

The President spoke at a gathering of hundreds of residents of the city of Concepcion, to mark the exact moment the quake had struck.

"That morning of February 27 stays in our memories. It was very hard for many people and especially for those who lost their loved ones. But I am convinced that the best way to remember them and the best way to honour them is by standing together," Pinera stated.

An aftershock of 6,2 magnitude had again rocked the country last Friday, but there have been no reports of further injuries or damage.
