Notorious brothers Ali Yuzeirov and Yuzeir Yuzeirov have not given up the idea of setting up the scandalous ‘Muslim Democratic Union’ alongside their new ‘OTOMAN’ party.

Ali Yuzeirov said Thursday that there were “clear reasons why the MDU was not registered by the authorities” but failed to go into detail. This comes ahead of the inauguration of the brothers’ new “OTOMAN” party on April 2, which is Good Friday for Bulgarian.

Yuzeir Yuzeirov was charged over his attempt in 2009 to create a “Muslim Democratic Union” - a party which was refused registration because it was declared unconstitutional as it was based on religious and ethnic principles.

The wannabe politicians are planning to set up their OTOMAN party in the Tombul Mosque, a famous architectural and historical monument in the northeastern city of Shumen.

Yuzeirov said he was not aware of Christian holidays and that the date for the formation of his party was “just a coincidence…every Friday is sacred for Muslims”.

"Our main goal is through the promotion of tolerance, morality and responsibility as virtues in society, to ensure the personal freedom of citizens to establish political and economic stability in the country, leading to prosperity for every individual, ethnic group and nation as a whole," Yuzeirov continued.

He also added that a new monument had been built on private land in the village of Lyublen similar to the controversial monument of the Unknown Turkish/Muslim Soldier near Targovishte, which was torn down by the authorities after court action in 2009.

Yuzeirov concluded that he had been impressed by Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov’s comment “God in front, I follow.”

The key figures in the movement for creating the OTOMAN party – an abbreviation bearing uncanny connotation to the Ottoman Empire – include also Menderes Kungyun.

Kungyun is the leader of another political formation that has likewise been refused registration – a Turkish National Movement.

OTOMAN is an abbreviation in Bulgarian which is supposed to stand for “Union for tolerance, responsibility, moral, and alternative progress.”
