Former Social Minsiter, Emiliya Maslarova, has paid her BGN 5000 bail after being charged with abuse of office and embezzlement in February.
Maslarova, speaking in Haskovo on Monday said that she had transferred the money for her bail but she still complained that it was too much. On March 11 the Sofia City Court reduced her bail amount from BGN 50 000 to BGN 5000 after she appealed the original court decision.
Maslarova also took the opportunity to attack the government’s planned ‘luxury’ tax- saying that it was just the latest of their PR tricks.
On February 23, Maslarova, former Labor and Social Policy Minister and currently Socialist Member of the Parliament, was charged with abuse of power and embezzlement, four months after she voluntarily gave up her immunity from prosecution.
According to Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, a probe had shown that the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, under the leadership of Emiliya Maslarova, had slated BGN 18,8 M for the renovations of a social home in the southern city of Stara Zagora. Only BGN 7,8 M have been used for construction and repairs, while the remaining BNG 11 M were embezzled through fake invoices.
