BIA Launches a Project to Encourage a Longer Working Life
The Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) is launching a project to encourage a longer working life.
Bozhidar Danev, head of the Bulgarian Industrial Association, has presented a package of 50 anti-crisis measures prepared by trade unions and employers from across the country
“The closeness of the position of unions and employers shows that the situation is serious,” Danev said Sunday, cited by BTA.
Regarding state finances the measures include the accelerated sale of carbon emissions from the Kyoto protocol, privatization of state minority shares through the stock market, liberalization of the investment regime" Silver Fund "for Bulgarian investments in low-risk financial instruments and the construction of public records on leased state and municipal property.
Other proposals include the cutting of the period of unemployment benefit from 6 to 8 months, an increase of the minimum wage on July 1 and also restoring financial discipline in the state by speeding up reimbursement of VAT and excise duties within the legal deadline.
“The measures could lead to between BGN 5-8 B in additional revenue for the budget this year,” the Confederation of Independent Bulgarian Syndicates (KNSB) Deputy Chair, Plamen Dimitrov, concluded.
Earlier, Danev reacted strongly to Labor Minister Totyu Mladenov’ proposal, for Bulgaria to temporarily give up its flat rates for income and corporate taxes because of the economic crisis. He said that this would drive away more foreign investors.
A separate package of anti-crisis measures is currently being discussed at a meeting of the Bulgarian cabinet, the GERB government reported Sunday.
