Serbia’s President Boris Tadic is not going to attend Saturday’s EU Summit on the Western Balkans in Slovenia because independent Kosovo will be represented there.
This has been announced by the Cabinet of the Serbian head of state. Tadic recently made it clear that he would only attend the summit in Brdo, Slovenia, if Kosovo is represented as a UN protectorate, i.e. as UNMIK-Kosovo.
At roughly the same time, Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, who was setting out for Slovenia, has expressed his satisfaction with the fact that independent Kosovo will be represented at the forum together with the other sovereign states.
It has been confirmed earlier on Friday that European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy, will not be attending the Brdo Summit, which has been called at the initiative of Slovenia and Croatia over the future of the Western Balkans. EU Enlargement Commissioner Stephan Fuele is expected to attend.
