A couple of hundred military officers gathered Tuesday night for a silent protest in downtown Plovdiv.

They protested against the idea of the Finance Ministry to make all state employees pay their own health insurance fees. Currently, these fees are assumed by the state.

The military officers who gathered before the Military Club in Plovdiv said their salaries will drop by BGN 150 if they started to pay for their health insurance.

They have protested against what they see as unfair treatment because the police syndicates have been promised that health insurance fee exceptions will be made for the police officers.

Last week the Bulgarian government decided to increase the universal health insurance fee from 8% to 10%. On Wednesday it is expect to renounce its decision, and to vote in favor of making the state employees cover their own health insurance.
