The term “Turkish Yoke” stirred controversy between Bulgarian and Turkish servicemen from the NATO mission in Afghanistan.

Major Daniela Blagoeva, reportedly made a presentation dedicated to Bulgaria's Liberaton Day, which had been deemed offensive by Turkish army officers. Blagoeva had posted the presentation on the ISAF intranet in Kabul with text talking about the Turkish Yoke instead of the politically correct Ottoman Rule.

The Bulgarian Chief of Staff in Afghanistan had already apologized to his Turkish counterpart for the wrong use of terms.

The Bulgarian Defense Ministry informs the presentation had not been assigned to Blagoeva. The material has been deleted and the Turkish side expressed satisfaction over the swift reaction.

Blagoeva has not been punished and will continue to serve in Kabul until the new contingent arrives.

how can this be offensive? It's true is it not? DId not Ottoman Turkish empire occupy and exploit Bulgaria for 500 years?

I mean really what is their problem? Every country has done misdeeds and oppressions of others at one time or another....why does Turkey seem to think they are exempt?

The idiot Turks are making a tempest in a tea cup. What is the difference between Ottoman rule and Turkish yoke? There is no difference. Call it Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria and call it a day.

The woman is telling it the way she learned it in Bulgarian history class. The Turkish vermin are telling it the way they learned it in Turkish history class.

All this nonsense Turkey is kicking up including recalling their ambassadors just validates my opinion about Turkey, Erdogan, Islam, and the insolence and arrogance of the Muslim. Disgusting vermin. Islam has to be sanitized. Make jihad and sharia illegal in EU countries. Anyone who believes in jihad or sharia does not belong in European society. You want to practice it? Get TF back to the desert where you belong, dirty vermin!

nellie, don't go overboard, it is the Kemalist government that prints the history books blame them not regular Turkish person...
Ottomans exterminated the Bulgarian elite, depopulated towns (like the Nazis) and obviously kemalist power in Ankara would like to hide this becuase would embarass them and expose their mistreatment of Kurds, Circassians, and many other tribal minorities in Analtolia...

ironic how in Bulgarian Turks have thier own party and have ministers in the previous two governments! Full civil rights and open society....yet across the border is terror against minorities machine!

Uchak

You took the words right out of my mouth! I have been ranting like a mad woman against Bulgaria giving the ethnic Turks rights and freedoms and allowing them to organize political parties based on ethnicity. Bulgarians are treating the ethnic Turks like soft-boiled eggs, handling them with such care that it is pathetic. Clearly Turkey doesn't give a damn about anyone's rights. Turkey is sporting disgusting arrogance and insolence. Clearly they don't understand from diplomacy and kind treatment.

The Obaminator goes around the world apologizing for America and everyone is laughing behind his back. Everyone knows Washington is weak and these Muslim pr!cks don't respect weakness. You have to keep kicking them and slamming them to show them who is the boss. Just like the donkeys that they are.

Turkish Yoke
WOOOOOOOOOOOW. SO Iwan Vasov has to change the Title of his novel... But with such bulgarian governments you can not expect any thing else...
When will all that stop? Why the guys and gals have been offended, because their leadership has never recognized the libertion and independence of Bulgaria!!!! And indeed they are probably right since they hold a pretty big part of BUlgaria on european soil still in their hands!!!

Turkish Yoke
Turkey seems to be the only country in the semi-western world who can pull off being offended while having clearly been the oppressor. Clearly not an enlightened country, and clearly not western in any sense of the word. BG is messed up in all kinds of ways but at least it never oppressed other autonomous countries and then tried to silence them regarding the facts of this victimization centuries after the fact. Same goes for the Turkish attitude towards the Armenian genocide.
