Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The leader of the Bulgarian right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) party, Martin Dimitrov, says President, Georgi Parvanov, is loosing political ground.
Dimitrov commented Friday, in the heels of Parvanov' press conference, which focused on the economic crisis and the crisis among the country's institutions.
The UDF leader points out the main attacks on the part of the President were targeting the leader of the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party, Ivan Kostov, not Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
UDF and DSB together form Bulgaria's right-wing Blue Coalition.
“If someone is not very familiar with Bulgaria, they could be totally lost listening to Parvanov because they would think Kostov is the PM,” Dimitrov said, adding the President appeared nervous and confused.
According to the UDF leader, Parvanov acted as a politician, who has lost his prestige, cannot keep cool under pressure, and is looking for all kinds of excuses.
Dimitrov reiterated demands to publish all transcripts from the consultations of Parvanov to appoint the previous cabinet of the Three-Way Coalition and from talks about energy projects in Bulgaria with Russian participation.
“When the President was asked this question, he became obviously nervous and tried to cover up the situation, but we are waiting and will keep asking,” the UDF leader pointed out.
Regarding the impeachment procedure, Dimitrov stated the ball is in the court of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party and recommended to them to not change positions as usual.
The UDF leader reconfirmed Bulgaria's right wing is supporting the impeachment of Parvanov.
