Bulgaria Customs Agency officials and Plovdiv regional police officers have seized more than 1 400 liters of alcohol without excise labels.
They mounted their early morning raid following a tip-off about storage and distribution of illicit alcohol, the Interior Ministry has announced on Saturday.
They entered a warehouse complex in the village of Parvanets, in the Plovdiv district, and examined a minibus parked in the farmyard in front of the production facility of a private company.
The officers discovered it was loaded with plastic 5- and 10-liter bottles filled with different liquids that smelled of alcohol. The precise quantity confiscated amounted to 1 420 liters.
The warehouse is managed by the Djiro trade company. In February, the Customs Agency had revoked the company’s license to trade in liquor, following constant violations.
In 2009, a total of 15 fines had been imposed on the company, totaling BGN 15 000.
The investigation into the case continues, to identify the kinds of alcohol discovered. Pre-trial proceedings are also underway.
