Pentagon Metro Station Gunman Dies from Injuries
The man, who fired shots at in the underground Virginia metro station serving the US Department of Defense, has died from his wounds.
A man fired shots in the underground metro station in Washington DC serving the US Department of Defense AKA the Pentagon, BBC reports.
The incident happened Thursday at 6:40 p.m., when the man, looking very calm, approached two officers outside the metro station and opened fire. Witnesses report hearing gunshots and people screaming.
Police identified the suspect as Patrick Bedell, 36, a US citizen. He was critically wounded in the shooting while the officers' injuries are said to be not life-threatening.
The Pentagon Police Department, the Arlington County Police Department, the US Secret Service and the FBI are investigating the case including whether a second person is involved. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
All Pentagon entrances were closed off for a brief time but have since been reopened with the exception of the Pentagon Metro entrance, the Pentagon said in a statement.
The Pentagon is one of the largest office buildings in the world where about 23 000 military and civilian employees go to work every day.
