The State failed to transfer the funds for medical procedures for January, former Deputy Health Minister, Emil Raynov, warned Saturday.

Raynov spoke during the meeting convened by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) to discuss their response to the health reform planed by the cabinet of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party.

Raynov pointed out that Friday was the last workday for February while doctors and hospitals are still waiting for their January money.

BSP demand the funds for healthcare to remain the same as in the 2009 budget, which they say can be done through unblocking the National Health Insurance Fund reserve in the Central Bank, BNB.

The Socialists define the actions of the Cabinet as chaotic and destabilizing for the country’s health system, adding the government must present to the public a complete vision, priorities and action plan.

BSP further demand an end of what they call attempts to purposely bankrupt hospitals and for the cabinet to provide equal and timely access to medical help to all citizens.

The left-wing proposes the introduction of the so-called “protected hospitals” status under clear criteria.
