The Council of Ministers is going to decide Wednesday if Svetoslav Michev should be dismissed from the post Director of the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees.
On Monday Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, fired Michev's two Deputy Directors - Krasimir Kosatev and Dimitar Vladimirov for serious violations at the Agency. The PM said then the Prosecutor’s Office has been notified to begin a probe of the Director himself.
Borisov announced on Friday before the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) that a Director of a State Agency will be fired for violations. Media aired reports over the weekend the person in question will be Michev. He had been exposed after an investigation done by a BNT reporter.
Michev was called Tuesday for questioning at the Prosecutor's Office unit dealing with EU funds fraud. He is charged with dereliction in the amount of BGN 200 000.
Michev told Darik radio that there was not money draining involved and he is being dismissed because he is the only person remaining at the Agency who is connected to the previous cabinet.
“I know I am not guilty. It is very unpleasant the way it is all done, all these accusations,” Michev said.
The Director explained all charges stem from one building in the village of Baniya, near the city of Stara Zagora, where refugees are housed. According to Michev, the building has been in need of repairs and they were already carried out.
The BNT report shows a rusty 2,3-meter long pipe for which BGN 10 000 have been paid by the Agency. The pipe burst and is leaking gasoline in the refugee center near Stara Zagora.
